Benjamin Lang, Inspiring 16-year-old entrepreneur talks about the ups and downs of Gen-Y business owners.

benjaminlangToday we’re featuring a young dude by the name of Ben Lang who owns three businesses, he has been interviewed around the web, on the radio as well as on TV(including Chanel 12).

Ben started a innovative E-bay selling business when he was younger. He also has a web design business and on top of that writes a blog about Gen-Y.

I set up an interview with Ben a few weeks ago to see what drives him, what his challenges are and how he started in the business world at a young age. He is a big believer in doing one’s best and in perseverance

Interview with Ben Lang:

First off, please tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m 15 years old. I live in New York currently. I’ve lived in a few different countries and speak 3 languages. I started an eBay selling business about 2 years ago. The real spark came when I had a featured interview on Channel 12. Now though I am concentrating more on my blog: www.ben-lang.com

How did you come up with the idea of an eBay and craigslist selling business, did you have any interest in business at the time or prior to that?
I started by selling my grandfather’s camera equipment online. The cash started pouring in because it was quite expensive equipment. So I thought, maybe if I sold other people’s stuff I could make even more… which eventually lead to the creation of my business.

As a 16-year-old, I’d imagine it’s not easy juggling school and business at the same time. Both of which are very demanding and require a lot ofattention. How do you prioritize your time and how does this set you apart from other teens your age?
I try to concentrate more on school, but obviously blogging and selling is so much more interesting and exciting. Even though I use up a lot of time working on my businesses, I still manage to succeed in school.

What personal challenges, as a young entrepreneur, did you or do you have to face?
My age was mostly a challenge. People tend to trust me less because I am younger than your average business man. Even though I get more attention because of that, sometimes it leads to problems.

What would you say your greatest strength is?

The Nephew dvd

My greatest strength would be perseverance. I try very hard at everything I do. Because of that I always have a high chance of succeeding.

Ben, I know you have a few years of high school left, what are your dreams and goals for the future, do you plan on going to college? What are your post high school plans?:
Frankly, I’m not sure yet. I’d love to start a company and retire by 21. if it happens ill let you know ;)

What kind of books do you read? Which one’s would you suggest to others?
I read an assorted array of business books. Some on investing, networking, Google, SEO, eBay, entrepreneurialism and more. My favorite though is Dig Your Well Before you are Thirsty, a book on networking.

What advice would you give teens your age who want to start a business oftheir own?

I Love You, Man hd

I would say the most important aspects or running a business are networking and perseverance. I’ve been working on networking very hard. It takes a lot of effort but pays off. Perseverance I feel that I’ve mastered, I try very hard to be successful at everything I do.

Thank you for taking the time for this interview Ben, it’s been a pleasure having you on my blog :)
