STOP Calling Yourself A "Blogger"—Most Likely Your Not!

So whats wrong with calling yourself a blogger? Maybe the title “Blogger” doesn’t fit what you really are or do. If I remember correctly real “bloggers” are the ones who specialize in blogging technologies. The point is, just because you own a blog(even if it’s popular) it doesn’t make you a blogger. Blogging is just a tool you use to write about your passion. David Armano writes:

The Devil’s Own film

My broader message was that unless the act of blogging itself was indeed your core passion—you should identify yourself more closely with what your true passion is—whether that be writing, sports, design, marketing or perhaps being a parent.

I would avoid using the term blogger to describe people who own blogs, when in fact they’re just using another tool on the web. If you own a blog about marketing or cars, your a marketer or a car enthusiast—not a blogger.

Is this more a matter of semantics or do you think there’s something to it?
Hmmm…yeh…don’t people with particular interests, passions, messsages, usually say they are blogging about something? And people who just say they’re bloggers…usually put down what’s on their mind and can be kind of random?

I’m referring more to general population…not the the tech specific bloggers….

It doesn’t bring an interesting point about how we get hooked to certain jargon of the day…and this can actually detrimentally take focus away from what we are really doing….

What you said there makes sense. If someone creates multiple blogs and blogging is their business, then I think it would be suitable to call them a blogger. I correct myself here: “If I remember correctly real “bloggers” are the ones who specialize in blogging technologies.” Instead of that I want to say, “People who are passionate about blogging and write about various topics for the joy of blogging, the term ‘blogger’ might best describe them.”

I think the usage of the term blogger can be used in the wrong way, for example, “surfer” is used to describe people who serf the web. All web surfers have different interests and goals while surfing the web. Since blogging is very broad, I think we need to be more specific name to describe ourselves.

I just think if your main focus is blogging than you are a blogger, just like a journalist or a writer is called a writer.
