I Will Be Leaving This Blog For A Few Months, Please Stay Tuned!

I find blogging a lot of fun and I get a blast out of posting here and getting things off my mind. However, once again I’m going to leave for a few months and eliminate blogging from my agenda until I’ve resolved a few issues, reached a new level of expertise and get to the next step. I’ve come to the conclusion that to reach this next step I need to focus all of my energy on it, whether it takes 1 month or 1 year.

When I get back I’ll share my experiences with all of you and tell everyone about what’s going on. Right now I have 3 businesses to build and the next few months will consume more energy than I will have for blogging and writing.

I will continue to network with you on sites like Twitter and Facebook, and will drop in now and then to see how things are going. I’ll also continue to read your blogs and stay updated on your RSS feeds.

Hope to see many things change by the time I get back!

Stay great my friends!

Acting Yourself Into Feeling: The Classic Method Of “Feeling Like It”

Do you have a problem with motivating yourself to get off the couch and get something done?

The loser’s approach: wait to feel right and then take action.

The professional’s approach: take action until you feel like it.

Acting yourself into feeling isn’t a new concept, all of us do it at lease a few times. The trick is to do it all the time. The sad fact is that most of us don’t push ourselves into something we don’t feel like doing unless we think we “have” to do it. For example, our 9-5 job, or getting up at 7 on Monday to put the garbage out. :P

That’s all it is, you CAN’T get into the flow before you start. It’s just not possible.

“You need to be great to start, you need to start to be great” – John C. Maxwell

Stuff We Hate: Keep Your Accounting Together

Accounting has never been a strong suit for me. And I probably speak for most business owners when I say accounting is my least favorite part of running a business. In fact, I down right hate it! But at the end of the year, it’s something that needs to be done.

Speaking from experience, here are a few tips on accounting in a small business.

  1. Do it right all year round! You might get the feeling that at the end of the year you’ll have time to sort bills, look for cheques and remember what hell you all did through out the year. Don’t, you won’t have time and you won’t remember. Do everything right the first time, it saves time and braincells later on when you have to balance work and get the taxes in before the end of the year.
  2. Take Business Tax 101. Accounting might be the hate of your life but it doesn’t mean you have to lose at it every year. Knowing the basics is mandatory for all business owners. Don’t bore yourself though, if reading a whole book on tax laws were mandatory I’d give up business all together. Know the basics. That way, when you hire a CPA you’ll at least understand a bit of what he’s saying.
  3. Keep Everything Well Organized. There’s nothing that can screw you up more than losing bills and invoices, having bank statements all over the place and not remembering which gas receipts were for which. Keep everything marked and filed, don’t rely on your memory for anything.
