Twitter Lists is going crazy right now. Since the launch countless lists have been created and even more users have been added. South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut dvd Twitter Lists offers a new and powerful method of getting the aggregated data you want, when you want it. And come to think of it, this is what Twitter is really all about.

You may be at a loss on how to use Twitter Lists or what kind of lists to create. To learn how to use Twitter Lists take a hike over to Mashable’s “HOW TO: Use Twitter Lists”. Josh Catone has written an awesome article on why would use Twitter Lists, creating & managing and blocking lists and where to find Twitter Lists other users have created.

Sarah Evans also wrote a post on “10 Ways You Can Use Twitter Lists”. I used a few of her ideas in this post, but preferred to add a few of my own.

Drop Dead Fred release 1. “Professionals in Your Industry, Niche or Market”

If you want to keep up with your industry news Twitter lists is a easy way to do just THAT. You can add anyone you consider an authority to your list. For example I chose to add Joel Comm to my Industry Leaders because I consider him an authority on Internet marketing and Twitter. Sure maybe he’s not what you’d consider a “Tycoon” or an “Industrialist”. He doesn’t post a lot of news, per se, but I know that if there’s any place to get valuable information about Twitter marketing it’s from Joel Comm, so I listen and watch what he’s talking about. Another person I consider an authority on social media, connecting with people, design and the new web is David Armano. I’ve followed his blog for well over a year now and respect his opinions on his blog and what he does for other people.

2. “Demographics and Personas”

Here’s a cool list you can create, demographics. If you’re a marketer and use Twitter for collecting marketing information you can group users by demographic or persona. Depending on what data your collecting you can sort users by sex, age, country, occupation, nationality, etc etc.

3. “People Near You, Region Wise”

It’s important to keep in mind the people who live in your area, especially if you use social media for your local business. If you need to know instantly who lives within, for example, driving range of you..you could add a People Nearby list. For instance, I live in High River Alberta. I could add a High Riverites or Albertans list so I can find out INSTANTLY who lives in my area.

4. “Your Evangelists, People you talk about you and Subscribers”

If you don’t have a large following on Twitter this one may not work for you. If you’ve “generated a buzz” and have people talking, FIND OUT who they are and add them to your Evangelists

list. Before Twitter Lists we had to write these people down on paper. Now we can add them to a list and see what they’re talking about. It’s much easier. This is also a great way to keep in front of and get to know your Subscribers.

5. “Your Friends and Regular Tweeters”

It’s hard to keep up with all your every day Twitter friends when they’re scattered amongst hundreds of other users. If you only follow 10 or 30 people this probably isn’t a big deal. However for you more action Tweeters, it’s a good idea to add your friends to a separate list. This will make them feel important and will let them know that you haven’t forgotten that they’re alive.

The Just

Twitter Lists makes all the sense in the world. There’s such a thing as being too simple. I think this tiny new addition has made Twitter that much more easy to use, especially for busy Tweeters who don’t have time to write groups down on paper and visit them one by one. It’s doesn’t take effort to set up an Auto responder and it saves time. They’re also a piss off to new followers.

Why do we need an Auto responder anyways? Are we pressed for time? Are we celebrities with an 30,000+ followers? Are we just too busy to take the time to appreciate new potential clients?
Hell it only takes 30-40 minute’s every day to send out a few nice personal messages to the people who thought you were worth following.

Is your time so important that you need to risk turning off people who could benefit YOU?

I had another brainwave on this topic and decided to make a PART 2! If you haven’t read my first post, “Successfully Selling Yourself On Twitter”, you can read it here.

I’ve decided to share two more tips with you on how to promote your personal or company brand on Twitter. Here they are:

Continued Tip #1. STAY on topic. If you want people to stay(or become) interested in your brand you need to keep them reminded. Try to keep every tweet related to your bio(or your brand or occupation).

For example, tweets like,
“going to bed, good night everyone”
or
“I’m going to work in 10 minute’s”
or
“I’m hungry, going to find something to eat”.

These are all very good, but they don’t remind anyone about your brand.
If instead you made tweets like,
“Merry Christmas from everyone at [MY COMPANY]“
or
“Re-wrote a [CLIENT'S SITE] in PHP, going to bed good night.”
or
“[this and this technology related to my business] has just released version 2.5! – http://linklink.com”

It ensures that you’re getting the word out, to some extent. Combine your personal daily activities with promoting your brand.

Continued Tip #2. Follow people in YOUR field. Try to follow people, who mainly do what you do. This way you won’t be getting a bunch of uninteresting updates. Also, there’s more of a chance that the followers of extended networks will follow you. But don’t isolate your self, people from other fields are interesting to. Chances are they might be interested in your brand and, in turn, follow you back.

Who won’t admit it. Twitter is addicting. The more you use it, refresh it and participate in it, the more addicted you become. Follow–uh–I mean consider these tree tips.

1. “Twitter is NOT a chat.”

   Don’t use it as one. Twitter’s different from both chats and forums. It’s mircoblogging, not microchatting or microforuming. Don’t add a new tweet every 25 seconds.

   To break your addiction of constantly posting new tweets, only check your Twitter account 2-3 times daily. Having 5 second updates sent to your mobile phone is both nerve wrecking and counter productive.

3. Think of what you could be doing with the extra time you spend on Twitter. Life goes beyond twitter. You don’t NEED Hellmaster move to be on Twitter constantly or know what’s going on every 10 seconds.

I just noticed something, Wikipedia has a home page!

Should I be surprised? No. But why does it seem strange?

I know what you’re saying, “Great observation dude…:P”

Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen it in months or years…
Maybe it’s because I never intentionally visited the Wikipedia home page or that I almost never remembered how to spell “Wikipedia.com”…HOWEVER, I use Wikipedia all the time as a source of information.

I’ve grown to depend on Wikipedia for 50% of what I learn on the web, the other 50% are spit between blogs, random Google searches and miscellaneous article sites. Learning has never been so quick and easy!

My point is, Wikipedia isn’t known primarily by it’s cool home page, or by it’s domain name, or URL, or simplistic layout. Even though those things do help to a certain extent. It’s known by it’s availability and wide range of helpful content. What ever you need to know…all it takes is just a quick Google query and we get Wikipedia as the first or second result, providing us with what we wanted!

I just wanted to give everyone a quick reminder: The impression of the site IS important , the planning and marketing IS important but the content is and always has been the MOST important part of a web site or any web resource. It’s been said time and time again, content is king, content is king. However I think that community is king and content is queen. When you think of it, content wouldn’t exist(except in small portions) if it weren’t for the people who are a part of the community contributing day and night.

People who hop from one niche to another are best described as niche hoppers. They let thier efforts on the current project go to waste so they can chase after the next big thing.

Though the grass may seem greener on the other side, it’s always a minus in your part to give up on what your already involved in. If you find another great way of making money on the internet(or anywhere else for that matter), adopt it. Take on as many niches as you can handle-don’t drop everything where you are because the money grows quicker over here. If you haven’t given your last niche a fair chance why did you go with it in the first place?

If your going to make more than a few dollars on the internet you’ll have to learn some patience. There is a variety of ways to make money on the internet, you just have to pick your thing and stick with it. Learning patience will take you that much closer to success. Everything in life takes time and patience, theres no reason why it should be any different in business.

As I look back at some of the past projects I gave up on(my classified site, my pixel ad site, that arcade site, my other blogs) I think to my self. What if I would have worked on those sites all along? Most of the sites I designed were small and ugly but they had a ton of potential. I gave up on them for on reason or another, either I lost interest, they weren’t living up to expectations or I just wasn’t thinking. Since then I’ve tried to learn from my mistakes and make up for lost opportunities of the past.

List building is often overlooked by site owners. Truth is, your site isn’t really the center of your community. Your user list is. Building a list under a niche gives you the opportunity to expand your borders and open new doors for your business. You can promote affiliate products through your list, refer them to your other sites and blogs, send out updates on your projects.

Yes, your list is the life line of your business. Without a list your business is held together by paper clips. Build a good list of people who have a positive attitude towards you and feel that your acting in their best interest.

If you focus on your list, you list will pay you back 11 fold in the long run. Just keep adding to it and adding to it!
